PROFILE
Based in New York City, Bit Shifter is an electronic musician, co-administrator of the 8bitpeoples record label, and co-founder & co-curator of the 2006-2012 Blip Festival international chiptune event series. He considers himself incredibly fortunate to have such talented friends as YMCK.

It's hard to believe it's been almost 20 years since I first heard YMCK. Their uniqueness, joyfulness, and musical sophistication was astonishing then; fast-forward to 2022, and it's still astonishing today. I was so happy to hear the news that there would be a new YMCK release this year, and I'm sure YMCK fans will not be surprised to hear that it's wonderful. From the driving, excitingly suspenseful opening track “夜明け” to the gentle swing of “夕暮れのチャイム” from the gentle, breezy “イチオクブンノイチ” to the excited bounce of “レトロ・リバイバル” the new album showcases YMCK at the top of their game. This trio is such an inspiring wellspring of rich creativity, somehow always staying true to their signature jazzy Famicom pop sound, whie still finding new ways to expand upon it and keep it sounding fresh. Family Innovation, indeed.

YMCKを初めて聴いてから、信じがたいことにもう20年近く経ちます。
当時彼らのユニークさ、楽しさ、音楽の洗練さには驚かされましたが、2022年の今もなお驚きの連続です。
今年YMCKの新作が出るというニュースを聞いてとても嬉しかったし、YMCKのファンならきっと驚かないでしょうが素晴らしい出来栄えです。
疾走感あふれサスペンスフルなオープニング曲「夜明け」から、穏やかなスイングの「夕暮れのチャイム」。そして“イチオクブンノイチ”から “レトロ・リバイバル”までは、YMCKの最高傑作と言えるでしょう。ジャジーなファミコン・ポップ・サウンドを忠実に再現しながらも、それをさらに発展させ常に新鮮なサウンドを提供してくれる。
まさにファミリー・イノベーション。

PROFILE
2080, is a blend of influences from early electro, 90’s rave, pop, and underground scenes like chiptune, circuit bending and noise.
He moslty performed in Europe and Japan and collaborated with bands like dDamage, Daxman from Dax RIders, Julie Watai, Toxic Avenger and SatanicPornoCultShop. He produced 6 EPs and a dozen of albums, a few of them being documentary and video games soundtracks, and some collaborations with contemporary artists around the world like Luyang, Camille Ayme, Poppy Purrs factory.

Maybe this album could have been titled "The Secret of the Animals", as it really looks like YMCK had access to a deep secret about our futur, only held by nature itself, but they promised to no tell more than what is in the music. How "INNOVATION" talks about society, how things in motion beyond our comprehension, rocking us to a fast accelerating pace unto the forthcoming chaos, would be entirely dark if it wasn't for the constant glimpses of hope, in the form of an unexpected last verse, or a well thought multi-layered meaning. The compositions of this album are some of my favorites from YMCK, the lighthearted music and Midori-San's voice sends me on a dreamy and introspective way, pushing thoughts about individualisme, of marketing's fake promises, grief, the urge of being an artist in "Retro Revival", the need to reconnect to nature, and how ultimately, to live is living the moment like in the title "Photograph of a Contrail" and the oh so nostalgic and tender video that goes along. YMCK doesn't shy away from the duty of all grand artists, addressing our society's paradoxes and conflicts. To me this is way more than just an other chiptune album, it's a brillant piece of art, and the cat knows it. I also want to mention the rearranged version. They proves that the apparent simplicity of chiptune is only hiding a huge talent of composition that could be put in any type of orchestration. Please continue to treat us like this.

このアルバムのタイトルは "The Secret of the Animals "でもよかったかもしれない。まるでYMCKが、自然だけが知っている未来の深い秘密に触れたが、音楽の中で語られる以上のことは語らないと約束したかのようだ。この "イノベーション" は、社会について、我々の理解を超えたところで動いているものが、来るべきカオスに向かって我々を加速度的に揺り動かす様子を語っているが、もし、予想を裏切るラストヴァースや、紡ぎこまれた多層的な意味をもって、希望の光を見せてくれなければ、全く暗い印象となっていただろう。
このアルバムの構成は、YMCKの中でも特に気に入っています。
軽快な音楽とMidoriさんの声は、私を夢見心地で内省的な境地へと導きながら、個人主義について、マーケティングの嘘や悲しみについて、「レトロ・リバイバル」においてはアーティストとしての衝動について、自然との再会の必要性について、そして最後に 「ひこうき雲のフォトグラフ」というタイトルから連想されるように、生きることはその瞬間を生きることだということについて考えさせてくれる。
YMCKは、社会の矛盾や葛藤を訴えるという、壮大なアーティストの義務から逃れることはありません。私にとって、これは単なるチップチューンのアルバム以上のもので、素晴らしい芸術作品です。きっと猫も同意することでしょう。また、リアレンジバージョンについても触れておきたいと思います。彼らは、チップチューンの見かけのシンプルさで、どんなタイプのオーケストレーションにも堪える偉大な作曲の才能を隠していたのだということを証明しています。

60年代レトロ？それともMotown？旺福（ワンフー）のスタイルは多元的で、彼らを表現するとしたら、自分で自分の首を絞める、と言える。しかし旺福（ワンフー）は活動を開始してから絶えず努力をして周囲から素材を集め、彼らの独特な思考ロジックとユーモアのセンスで、複雑なスキルと抽象的なイメージを包み込み、最も楽しく、最も興味深い音楽で、憂鬱、退屈に対抗し、聴くことにより、知らず知らずストレスが解消される！
旺福が正式に結成されたのは、1998年のクリスマスイヴで、結成以来既に8枚のアルバムをリリースし、国内のSpring Scream、Formoz Festival野台開唱、海洋音楽祭など大規模な音楽イベントに参加し、何度も賞をとる。自分の家の裏庭のような国内の各ビッグライブハウスのほか、旺福は何度も海外ツアーを行い、中国、香港、シンガポール、アメリカ、カナダ、日本でも彼らの軌跡をみることができる！
2011年より4年連続でアメリカ、テキサス州のサウス・バイ・サウスウェスト(SXSW)に参加している。近年、旺福はますます日本のファンから注目を受け、多数の日本版アルバムとシングルがリリースされ、ツアーも行われ、熱烈な反響を得ている。

1ro, me encantó (debo sacarme eso de encima), la variedad de estilos dentro del mismo genero sigue presente, los ritmos, la calidad consistente, la forma en que fluye el disco desde la 1ra canción y me gusta mucho el toque de incluir arreglos como extras, dan otra perspectiva que me parece genial en este caso (Ame el arreglo de Photograph of a Contrail!)
Mis canciones favoritas en este momento son Global Innovation, Dusk Chimes y Photograph of a Contrail.
Es increible como el mundo nos conecta a traves de estos sonidos.

このような機会をいただけたことを贅沢な贈り物のように感じ、感動しています。
このいまだかつてない時代の中で、依頼をいただいてとても感謝しています。
（いろいろ感想はあるのですが）今回まず私を魅了したのは、このジャンルの中で、リズム感や音質、私が最初に好きになった曲から一貫したアレンジの盛り方などを保ったまま、さまざまなスタイルで新しい視点を与えてくれたことでした（「飛行機雲のフォトグラフ」のアレンジが大好きです！）
現時点で私のお気に入りの曲は、「グローバル・イノベーション」「夕暮れのチャイム」「飛行機雲のフォトグラフ」です。
こうして音楽を通して私たちの世界がつながるのは素晴らしいですね。
